The Test Architect will be responsible for future-proofing automation platforms, frameworks, and techniques, commensurate with the changing technical landscape of Change Healthcare Platforms, Products, Services, and Tools. The Test Architect will help ensure the Quality Engineering teams can automate systems under test. The Architect will ensure future architectures are testable and will be a thought leader in strategy and execution. This will be done through innovation and collaboration with quality engineering teams, architecture, development engineering teams, and related business functions.

This is a critical, highly visible, and strategic leadership role within the Quality Engineering team and will drive innovation and efficiencies. 

The scope of this role will also include working with quality engineering teams to drive Artificial Intelligence within the automation space, and further building the engineering practice. This position reports to the VP of Quality Engineering.


  • Establish design principles for QA automation frameworks and sometimes Performance Engineering. Present options and recommendations as needed.
  • Leads architecture design of test automation frameworks as needed at Change Healthcare. Design and architect modular and reusable automated testing solutions that satisfy client requirements.
  • Work closely with the SDET team to identify new automation opportunities.
  • Lead and mentor the test automation team. Identify and mentor framework champions and partner with them on Business Unit automation needs.
  • Develop a protocol for test infrastructure, tooling, determine how to test metrics and test outcomes are collected and managed.
  • Develop and maintain a planning model that estimates the ROI of test automation. Track and report actual ROI.
  • Keep current with advances in automation methodologies and tools.
  • Research, evaluate, and deploy new test tools as deemed fit for Change Healthcare.
  • Identify and drive tools that support continuous testing and continuous integration (CI/CD).
  • Continuous improvement – champion solutions that tie production leakage tie back to the Quality Engineering process.
  • In partnership with Architecture and Development, future proof test automation with new feature capabilities and new offerings that drive quality engineering and product delivery value. 
  • Partner with Product Management and Business leaders to drive Agile delivery of both existing and new offerings where tooling may be needed.
  • Ability to articulate a defined automation product roadmap using AI and/or ML, with expected benefit along with that roadmap. 
  • Scope:

  • Mostly Strategic Orientation, Some Tactical Focus. Likely will start as 40% strategic/60% tactical. Overtime should become 75% strategic/25% tactical.
  • Individual Contributor and Small Team Leader.
  • Leads automation architecture design for one or more automation platforms.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    10+ years of professional experience in software engineering and/or Quality Engineering / Test Architecture.

    Critical Skills:

  • Must be willing to travel as needed to fulfill project demands.
  • Regularly explores and learns new skills/knowledge and applies them in practice; mentors others in skills/knowledge
  • Proven track record of test architecture leadership, with a proven track record of building modern automation frameworks, along with proof of achieved ROI. 
  • Experience working with High-Performance Distributed Computing Systems.
  • Cloud (public and private) experience is a plus.
  • Experience with modern and advanced automation techniques, like self-service, keyword, scriptless, or BDD frameworks.
  • Proven track record of building and delivering enterprise-class products 
  • Experience in the delivery of AI capability in an automation framework is a plus.
  • Crisp and effective executive communication skills, including significant experience presenting cross-functionally and across all levels
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. More advanced degrees are preferred.
